Four ways members use Calibres

Buy, sell, value, spot.

  1. Buying

Know fair market before you wire the deposit. Calibres reads the listing, your message, or just a reference number — and tells you if it's a buy, a hold, or a walk-away.

  2. Selling

Price your piece against live market — not last year's gut feel or your AD's lowball offer. Calibres gives you the 90-day median, recent auction range, and the listing where to clear it.

  3. Collection valuation

One unified valuation across every reference you own — for insurance, estate planning, or just peace of mind. Export-ready PDF in 30 seconds.

  4. Spot the fakes

Reference numbers, dial codes, papers, movement numbers — Calibres flags anomalies against the database before you've even handed over a deposit.

How Calibres actually works

No black box.
Show your work.

Every Calibres answer comes with the data that produced it.

Here's the data we pull from and the rules the model holds itself to.

Where the data comes from

  • Auction houses: Christie's, Sotheby's, Phillips, Antiquorum, Bonhams — last 5 years of public hammer prices

  • Authorised dealer feeds: Direct partner exports refreshed daily from 14 ADs across AU, UK, US, EU

  • Verified marketplaces: Chrono24 Trusted Checkout, Watchfinder, Bezel, Crown & Caliber, WatchBox

  • Boutique releases: manufacturer retail prices and waitlist activity, tracked at brand level

  • Member transaction reports: Verified member purchases and sales, opt-in only

The rules Calibres holds to

  • Show the data: Every answer ships with the underlying sample size, median, trend, and chips. No "trust me bro."

  • Indicative, not financial advice: Calibres flags uncertainty when sample is thin; doesn't tell you whether to buy as an investment.

  • No commission, no kickbacks: Calibres has no incentive to push you toward any one marketplace. The recommendation is yours.

  • Confidence bands: For rare references, Calibres returns a range, not a point estimate, and tells you why the data is thin.

  • Human override available: Platinum & Gold Annual members can escalate any query to our concierge team within 4 hours.

Honest answers

Questions members actually ask

Is Calibres giving me investment advice?

No. Calibres is a market intelligence tool — it tells you what a watch is worth on the secondary market right now, and what it has been worth recently. It doesn't tell you whether a watch is a "good investment" because we don't think anyone honestly can. Treat it as the equivalent of a fair-market appraisal you can run 100 times a day.

How accurate is it on really rare pieces?

For high-liquidity references — major Rolex, AP, and Patek models — we pull from thousands of recent transactions and the accuracy is tight. For genuinely rare pieces with sub-100 annual sales, Calibres will tell you that explicitly, showing you the sample size behind every figure so you can weight it accordingly. We don't manufacture confidence on thin data.

Does Calibres take a commission if I buy?

No. Calibres is included in your Watch Society membership — there's no transaction fee, referral kickback, or dealer relationship that influences the data. The number you see is the market number, not a number designed to nudge you toward a sale.

What about brands Calibres doesn't cover yet?

We're expanding coverage monthly. If you query a brand or reference we don't have full data on yet, Calibres tells you that rather than guess. You can request coverage for specific brands via your member dashboard — those requests directly shape our data roadmap.

Can I export my queries / data?

Gold Annual and Platinum members can export collection valuations as a PDF and pull query history as a CSV. Silver and Gold monthly members can export individual query results. Full API access is on the roadmap for Platinum.

What does Silver-tier "limited" actually mean?

Silver members get 10 Calibres queries per calendar month. Each query returns the full data output — 90-day median, auction range, trend direction — there's no information waterfall. You just have a monthly cap on how many questions you can ask. Unused queries don't roll over.
